Understanding your driving messages
Good messages show you're driving consistently well
Okay messages mean in general you've been driving well, but there are areas of your driving you need to work on before you can get a Good message
Needs Improvement messages show the areas you need to improve on to stay safe
Unsafe messages highlight that you urgently need to improve your driving as it's becoming a concern
Dangerous messages warn you there’s a serious problem with your driving and you need to take immediate action
Highly Dangerous messages are very rare - we'll only send one if a driver starts to really worry us.
You'll get one of these messages if you:
Drive extremely recklessly (e.g. driving excessively over the speed limit)
Get an extremely high number of harsh braking and/or harsh cornering events
Get 6 Dangerous messages for speeding in the year
What happens if I receive Dangerous or Highly Dangerous messages?
Not only does receiving Dangerous messages increase the likelihood your insurance premium rising, but if you receive 3 of them in a price review for the same driving category then we'll apply a 30 point penalty to your driving score. This 30 point penalty will remain in place until after your next price review. If you receive 6 Dangerous messages for speed then this will result in a Highly Dangerous message.
If we notice a trend of dangerous driving or you receive more than one Dangerous message in the same driving category (like speed or braking), we may get in touch to talk about your driving. This would include tips on how to improve your driving, helping you work towards earning good driving discounts.
Highly Dangerous messages
If you receive a Highly Dangerous message then:
Your score will be set to zero for the rest of the price review but you'll start the next price review with a clean slate
You'll get the highest increase you can for that price review
Your policy will be put on review and unless we see a significant improvement in your driving, your insurance will be cancelled
If you receive a second Highly Dangerous message at any time over the year, your insurance will be cancelled
Warning: driving at unacceptably high speeds or creating an extremely high number of harsh braking or harsh cornering events may lead us to cancel your insurance with us immediately

If we do start to worry about your driving, our Driver Behaviour Unit will give you a ring to talk through your driving and try to get you back in the discount game. We're not here to tell you off; we just want to help you stay safe.
